Hello, internet people. We are all existing in a similar state, and to get around you need some guidance. Yes, it's links time.
Basically these are all from my bookmarks collection.
I am not going to make this post like the one I have on my myspace [Die recht links]. This'll be more like my personal interests. Make sure you hold the command key while clicking on a link so that you won't wander off my page =D
CAT TALES
- A very intriguing blog on this person who owns four cats in her modest flat in Singapore. She delivers the happenings among the cats like how Al Jazeera reports about the latest plans of terrorists in the Middle East.
GOOD MAGAZINE | What Matters
- This magazine exists online and offline, but I wish I could own an offline version of it [because sometimes, links that don't matter end up on the site]. I can sense that this magazine has a really nice scent, and retains its shape [not easily crumpled / dog-eared] for a decent amount of time and would be treated like a book.
What is wrong with gay sex?
- This was written by Stephen Law, a philosopher / writer / lecturer / whoever who also wrote two of my favourite books, The Philosophy Files [1 and 2]. This article is quite easy to read, which is good for my kind of brain because I panic when I see too many words that has hidden meanings [in philosophy, especially].
Eskilstuna kommun - In English
- Eskilstuna is a little town in Sweden, ideal for anyone who is tired of modern life, living in the city, spending all day in a 16-degreed air-conditioned office and the only thing you get to meet are deadlines. I imagine Eskilstuna's houses are primary coloured, two storeyed, with round windows and has a pot of coffee steaming in the kitchen.
Official Falkland Islands portal
- A southern alternative for Eskilstuna is the Falkland Islands which are these little islands in the south of the Atlantic ocean.... several hours from Argentina if I am not mistaken. It's UK land, so you'll see English people living there.... kind of like an English countryside, but on an island isolated from McDonald's and Starbucks. Luckily there's the internet!
Die recht links - The right links.
Apparently my recent entries are all about getting worked up over objects found in shops. Purchases and money-spending hobbies. Makes me wonder, do I know how to write on something that I want, that other people can't relate to [because they can't find it in shops] and still get comments?
Right now, I wish I had a nice sardine puff pastry to eat. This particular bakery near my house, Baker's Cottage, has a nice selection of puff pastries, breads and other snacks. What I usually buy there are Raisin Sticks [long buttery bread sticks spotted with raisins], Macau egg tarts and chicken mushroom pie. They are all delicious. So, the thing that would make me slightly happy are a plastic bag of goodies from Baker's Cottage.
Also, I'd like to have someone to guide me in building up my portfolio. PJCAD wants to see them if I want to go straight to Second Year. Drats. How do I start, and from where?
Now, assistance can't be bought in shops. I'd have to find someone, be very good friends with them, and then let them assist me without me asking for their help. This is a tough one. And when I mean by assistance, I want more than just verbal assistance. Someone who'd help me sort my work out, lay them across the floor, select the good ones, touch-up on it, document / file / present it in a pleasing way. That's all I want! I'll be very happy if I could have a cool friend like that.
Meanwhile, I am trying to activate my new AIM screen name [actually it has been activated, just that I forgot the password] and the password-recovery site is taking FOREVER to load. Sometimes, an error message would appear, saying that 'connection has timed out' or 'site not responding'. Seriously, this slow-connection issue is getting on my nerves. Or is it trying to tell me to do my work right away?
*hours passed*
Right. Now that my screen name is alive and kicking, why don't you toss me an IM [find it under my 'About Me' section]. I will soon add my skype, Microsoft Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger screen names when I'm able to download Adium.
And to anyone - what is an RSS feed, how does it work, and why is it important? It's annoying me to see these orange wave icons everywhere, but it never tells me why it's there!
I'm not the kind who's very particular about cell phone trends. But I predict, by mid 2007, I will own a better phone [with Bluetooth, megapixeled camera, photo-posting capabilities, web browser, mp3 player, 3G-enabled.... hmm what else?], a MacBook Pro [by now it should have Leopard], a good iPod speaker.... All of that can easily cost me RM 13 000+. For now, let it be a wishlist.
I've been browsing through phone brand sites, and found two candidates - The multi-tasking but low-reputationed Sony Ericsson K800i and the seriously pleasant-looking but satisfactory-functioning MOTORIZR.
The Motorola site however, was semi-pathetic. It was some site with linkless Flash animation, and a sad-looking specifications sheet. I think the only thing that's making me want this phone is that it just looks cool =(
Of course I need to test-drive it first. But it is most likely that I will be choosing the K800i [by looking at what I just wrote].
How about an equally-cool accessory to go with it? Phone calls are more fun when you have the hulger. Oh yeah. Imagine how disastrously and intriguingly cool I can be walking around while talking on one of those pieces of art [especially with the Bluetooth model]. Expensive as fuck, though.
I made a random visit to Lowyat.net, 'Malaysia's Tech Enthusiast Community' site, and read that the earthquake that happened in Taiwan way earlier today has done some funkiness towards the cables and making.... well, just read this clipping:
We wish to inform our customers that the Internet service is currently experiencing a degradation in performance caused by several outages at some of the international links.
This is attributed to the Richter 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck off the southern coast of Taiwan at 12.07 a.m. on 27th December 2006, which caused the APCN2 (Asia Pacific Cable Network 2) submarine cable fault between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan and between Lantau, Hong Kong and Chongming, China.
This has caused outages at several TM Net international transit and peering links, mainly to the said countries. As a result, Internet users in Malaysia and other parts of Asia may be experiencing some delay when assessing content and websites hosted outside of Malaysia, especially in U.S., Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea and Europe. TM Net has taken immediate action to divert traffic through other back-up links to reduce the traffic congestion.
The international providers are carrying out immediate restoration works to rectify the problem. We will be making further announcements when the service has resumed.TM Net Sdn Bhd apologizes for any inconvenience caused whilst at the same time, we would like to assure you that we are doing all that is necessary in order to restore the service as soon as possible.
Customers can call TM Net Customer

Drats!
Good Tuesday to you. The three-day weekend was quite boring. I did manage to get out of the house for all three days, but I'll get to that soon, after I present to you these cool books I bought.
Saturday night, my father took me out to KLCC to do my brother's school shopping. Which I think is very ridiculous because he thinks it can be done under 1.5 hours. It can, because it rushes people around.
Awesome bookmakers, DK, have been my firm favourite since 1994 [anyone remember Children Just Like Me?]. They've won my nerdy heart with this one [like always]. Get it at Kinokuniya while it's on a 25% discount [on select new titles]. Normal price at RM 135.95.
Now on to the boring bits. I have a strange addiction to Toffee Nut Frappucinos. I have a really bad cough, yet I can't resist those icy-cold drinks. Not just my throat that is suffering, but same goes to my wallet =( I've also been going out for late afternoon rounds and end up at some shopping place [on Saturday, it was The Curve, on Sunday, it was The Curve again, and on Monday, it was MidValley]. Popcorn is my current favourite snack, and I only go to the stalls at cinemas. It was a pain finding a parking space at MidValley on a public holiday.
Today I might pay a visit to PJCAD and check out their set-up. I hope they do the credit-transfer thing.
First of all, mad props to those who IMed / SMSed / commented me to wish me a cool birthday. 4 people SMSed [my cousins and parents], less than five acknowledged it through the IM and one person commented. Yay! =\
Secondly: I went shopping. I asked for some money from my father, and after negotiating, he finally gave me RM 250.
At 10 a.m. I went off to Borders at The Curve because I wanted to buy the Wallpaper* Singapore City Guide [and apparently Kinokuniya doesn't sell these] at RM 29.90.
After a meal at Little Penang Kafe, I drove off to One Utama to check out what they have got there. I visited MNG to check out their sale, but saw nothing interesting. After that I hopped next door to Forever 21. I have my heart on this black pinafore / shift mini dress, but it had a semi-hefty price tag of RM 99. I thought I should leave it because I know there's tonnes of stuff like that in Sungei Wang. And off I went. Through the Penchala Link, Lebuhraya Mahameru, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Ismail and parked at Lot 10.
I made my way to T-Hop, formally known as the Roof Top, converted into this crazy shopping place. I made my first clothing purchase, which was this polka-dotted swing top. It was only RM 15, but since that it was on the bargain rack, I couldn't try it on [a bad purchase, actually. When I came back home, I tried it on and it was a real squeeze on my bust =\]. I think I am going to sell this off. Anyone wants to buy?
After spending a very long time at T-Hop, I settled down for a meal of toast smothered in condensed milk and icy chocolate drink with pearls. Now, more shops are waiting below.
No one can escape the 'skinny jeans' trend. Though I prefer to call them drainpipes, because back in the 60s, that's what they were called [now it's referred to as the 'skinny' because of the rising trend of skinny (anorexic-looking) celebrities donning them]. These were only RM 68. I realised that the shops on the 1st and 2nd floor are usually slightly cheaper than the ones at T-Hop. I saw the exact same jeans at T-Hop for RM 79.
Elianto has a nice range of cosmetics and skincare at extremely affordable prices. Each of these eyeshadow discs costs only RM 5! I bought three shades [later I realised that I've already got one that is the same shade, which I bought several days back]. I also grabbed an eyeshadow pan to fit the discs in [RM 7], eye & lip makeup remover [RM 16] and a blush brush [RM 12].
By then, it's was already 7.00 p.m. and I left KL after paying a ridiculous RM 12.50 for parking fees.
I rate this birthday a 5.5 out of 10.
Oh, some highlights. Several shopkeepers at Sungei Wang greeted me in Chinese, which was cool because I would make my weirdo face at them and they would feel embarassed and start speaking in English / Malay. Before I left, I stopped by Topshop Lot 10 and was greeted by this salesguy in Indonesian. He thinks I'm from "South Jakarta". I chatted with them for awhile, and told them that it was my birthday today because I wanted to know how much time I've got left to redeem my birthday voucher. Finally they wished me for a long life and asked me to come back again =)
Now, back to real life, where there's homework to do =(
Tee hee hee I am nineteen already.
I wish I could minus three numbers from that. Yes, sixteen was a very good age.
So what am I getting for my birthday? Perhaps nothing exciting, not even a cupcake or movie or new friend from comments posted on my blog.
Though, shopping is always a good idea.
Or a visit to Port Klang. No, Putrajaya. Yes. Neato place. And then, go shopping.
Or sleep in.
I recently realised that the entire living area of my house is all made from IKEA furniture. FIXHULT fake black leather sofa [which I don't dig much, and leather should NEVER be fake], SVANSBO coffee table [height is too low], a peculiar rug BETTAN LINJE and a newcomer - SOLSTA OLARP fake black leather armchair. Also new on the dining table - LÅGIS mouse pads in black and white. This is quite a sad phenomenon.
Black and white furniture doesn't work in a house that was designed to look semi-mediterranean, semi-Italian villa etc.
I have dug the plastic bags cabinet and found my father's IKEA shopping list. Other than SOLSTA OLARP, he also wrote on POÄNG [famous bent plywood armchair] and ROY [foldable side table / stool]. Meaning, he's in the spending spirit right now. Hm.... hopefully he can spend an extra RM 8 000+ on a MacBook Pro =D
And how about a new house?
I just finish browsing through my first dwell magazine purchase and I must say, there are TOO MANY ads. But hm, RM 9 for a back issue [October 2006]... not too bad.
You wanna know what I love and hate the most? The internet. I have used up three hours so far looking into sites like plasticase, gizmodo, imudesign, and some fashion blog. Someone [nice], please kidnap me.
Just in time for my birthday [I know, I think of nothing else], I am developing a special wish list and I hope to get at least one time off it. Stay tuned [I'll be editing it on TextEdit first, and then publish it here for you to read and N-Joy].
